TDEE calculator

Total daily energy expenditure is an estimate of what a body uses in a day. Cafeity shows energy as a secondary figure behind protein and hydration, but the arithmetic is here if you want it.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, and nothing is stored.

How it is worked out

Mifflin–St Jeor

For men: BMR = 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × age + 5. For women: the same, minus 161 instead of plus 5. It is the equation most commonly used because it tends to predict better than older alternatives.

The activity multiplier

TDEE = BMR × a factor from 1.2 to 1.9. That factor is a self-assessment, which is where most of the error lives — it can move the answer by 700 kcal or more.

Treat it as a range

Two people with identical inputs can differ substantially. Use it as an order of magnitude, not a budget.

Common questions

Does Cafeity set a calorie target from this?
No. Cafeity is protein-first: energy is shown as a secondary figure and no calorie target is set. The app will not set a target below a 1,200 kcal floor.
Why ask for sex at birth?
Because the Mifflin–St Jeor equation has two forms that differ by a constant. It is an input to the arithmetic, nothing more.
