Licences and attributions

Cafeity is built on other people's work. This page lists all of it — the open-source packages compiled into the app, the food databases it queries, and the design assets it ships — together with each licence and whatever attribution that licence asks for.

Software in the iOS app

These are the third-party packages compiled into the Cafeity app binary. Versions are the ones pinned at the current release.

Murmur — github.com/krispuckett/murmur, pinned at revision 4d39f75. MIT licence, copyright © 2026 Kris Puckett. Used to render Ora's presence orb. It performs no networking and collects nothing.

RevenueCat (purchases-ios-spm) — github.com/RevenueCat/purchases-ios-spm, version 5.88.0. MIT licence, copyright © 2024 RevenueCat, Inc. Used for subscription purchases and entitlements.

Sentry for Cocoa — github.com/getsentry/sentry-cocoa, version 8.58.4. MIT licence, copyright © 2015 Sentry. Used for crash reporting, and only if you consent to diagnostics.

There are no advertising, attribution or marketing SDKs in the app. That absence is checked automatically on every build, and a build that adds one fails.

The MIT licence

All three packages above are distributed under the MIT licence, which requires that its text travel with the software. Here it is once, and it applies to each of them under its own copyright line as listed above.

Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files (the “Software”), to deal in the Software without restriction, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, and to permit persons to whom the Software is furnished to do so, subject to the following conditions:

The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in all copies or substantial portions of the Software.

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. Food and nutrition data

Cafeity ships a food database and queries a larger one. Three sources feed them, and every food record in the app carries the name of the source it came from so you can see it at the point of use.

Open Food Facts — world.openfoodfacts.org. The database is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0, and individual contents under the Database Contents License. Open Food Facts is a collaborative project built by contributors around the world, and product data is contributed by its community. Records sourced from it are labelled as such inside the app.

U.S. Department of Agriculture, FoodData Central — fdc.nal.usda.gov. Produced by the United States federal government and, as such, in the public domain in the United States. Cafeity is not endorsed by the USDA.

Food Composition Table for Pakistan (Revised 2001) — used for regional composition rows. Values from this table are largely estimates rather than laboratory measurements, and rows drawn from it are marked unverified in the app.

Nutrition figures from any of these sources are averages for a category or a product, not measurements of the specific item in front of you. See the medical disclaimer.

Our ODbL obligations

The ODbL asks three things of anyone who uses the database, and we want to be explicit about where we stand on each.

Attribution. Open Food Facts is credited on this page, and every individual record derived from it carries its attribution string in the app itself, visible on the food's detail screen.

Share-alike. If we publicly distribute an adapted version of the database, the ODbL requires us to offer that adapted database under the ODbL too. We are taking legal advice on the precise boundary between a derivative database and a produced work here, and we will publish the outcome on this page rather than quietly deciding it. If you are reading this and that paragraph has not changed, the advice has not landed yet.

No technical restriction. We do not apply DRM to any ODbL-derived data.

Your own food log is yours. It is never sent to Open Food Facts, the USDA or any other data provider.

Typefaces

The app bundles no fonts. Cafeity uses Apple's system typefaces only — SF Pro Text and Display, SF Pro Rounded, New York and SF Mono — as provided by iOS and used under Apple's terms for system faces. Nothing is redistributed.

This website uses Inter, designed by Rasmus Andersson, for text and Manrope, designed by Mikhail Sharanda, for headings. Both are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. It is served from this domain rather than a font service, so loading a page sends nothing to a third party.

Illustration and design assets

Ora, the Cafeity mascot, and the 3D illustration set that goes with her: [MASCOT_LICENCE].

The Cafeity name, wordmark, colour system, product design and all original copy on this site are © Shaheer Malik. They are not covered by any of the licences above, and the licences above do not grant you rights to them.

The crayon illustrations on this website are original work made for Cafeity.

Services, as opposed to code

Some third parties process Cafeity data without any of their code shipping inside the app. They are not licence obligations, they are data-protection ones, so the authoritative list is the sub-processor table in our Privacy Policy — that is the one we keep current under Article 28.

In outline: the application backend and database, the AI provider used only for optional AI features, Apple for distribution and subscription billing, this website's host, and crash reporting. Each is named, with its purpose, in that table.

Corrections

We would rather be told than be right. If your work appears here with the wrong licence, the wrong attribution or no attribution at all, write to support@shaheercare.com and we will correct this page.

This page is updated whenever a dependency changes. If you need the state of it at a particular app version, ask and we will tell you.
