Calculator

Protein calculator

Appetite usually falls on a GLP-1, and total intake falls with it. Protein is the number most often discussed at appointments because lean mass is the thing people want to keep while weight comes down. This works out a figure from body weight so you have something concrete to bring to that conversation.

How it is worked out

The derivation

protein (g) = body weight in kg × 1.4. A 82 kg body weight gives 115 g a day. The multiplier sits in the range commonly used for preserving lean mass during weight loss; Cafeity uses the same figure so the site and the app never disagree.

Pounds to kilograms

weight in kg = pounds ÷ 2.2046. The conversion happens before the multiplier, so entering 180 lb and 81.6 kg give the same answer.

What it is not

A prescription, a meal plan, or a target anyone has checked against your circumstances. Protein needs shift with kidney function, pregnancy, age and training load. Those are conversations for a prescriber or a registered dietitian, not a calculator.

Common questions

Why 1.4 g per kilogram?
It sits within the range commonly cited for preserving lean mass during weight loss. Cafeity uses one transparent multiplier rather than a hidden model, so you can see exactly where the number comes from and discuss it.
Should I use my current or goal weight?
The calculator uses whatever you enter. Cafeity uses current body weight in-app, because the figure is meant to describe today rather than a target.
Does Cafeity set this target for me?
The app derives the same figure and shows how close a day came to it. It never tells you to eat more or less, and it never sets a calorie floor below 1,200 kcal.
